Why choose One Moving for your international move to Chile?

One Moving’s own team in Brazil handling packing, documentation and shipment, and Decapack, a One Moving Group company founded in 1942, performing customs clearance, delivery and assembly in Chile — with no intermediaries between the two ends.

Exclusive One Moving

Customs duty relief for menaje handled within the ceiling and the timeframe

Chile grants customs duty relief for household goods up to US$5,000 FOB, plus US$1,500 FOB for work tools, and requires that the cargo arrive within the 120-day window before or after your entry into the country. The Declaración de Ingreso can only be processed by a licensed customs broker. We value the inventory in FOB dollars from packing, so the total declared fits under the cap and the relief does not become a taxed import.

Customs clearance at both ends

We handle the export documentation in Brazil and conduct the customs clearance with the Servicio Nacional de Aduanas at the ports of Valparaíso and San Antonio using Decapack’s own facilities, including the dossier proving the residence visa. You don’t need to worry about bureaucracy — we handle everything.

Door-to-door delivery across Chile

We deliver your international move in Santiago, Valparaíso, Viña del Mar, Concepción, Antofagasta, La Serena and other regions, including the extreme south and the norte mineiro. From your address in Brazil to the door of your new home in Chile, with unpacking and furniture assembly.

Specialized professional packaging

We pack your belongings with high-quality materials and professional techniques. Furniture, electronics, works of art — all protected with the utmost care.

Comprehensive international insurance

Your move is covered by international insurance that protects the entire transit — from collection in Brazil to delivery in Chile.

Free virtual pre-move survey

We carry out the pre-move survey of your belongings by video call, without the need for an in-person visit. Practical, fast and without obligation.

Estimated door-to-door transit times, subject to the shipping line's or airline's schedule. They include collection, packing, customs clearance at origin and destination, and final delivery. The transit time for your move is confirmed in the quote after the service and route are defined.

Customs framework for the route: We operate the route under the menaje de casa regime of Partidas 0009.04 and 0009.05 of the Arancel Aduanero, with customs duty relief of up to US$5,000 FOB and Declaración de Ingreso filed by a customs broker.

What is included within this timeframe

The times above are door-to-door and include collection and packing at the origin residence, cargo consolidation, waiting for the ship’s departure window, the crossing, customs clearance at both ends and final delivery with furniture assembly. We publish it this way because it is the timeframe you actually experience. Port-to-port times published by carriers may seem shorter because they only cover sailing time, without customs, collection or delivery.

Required documentation at both ends

What Chilean and Brazilian customs require, with the name of each document and the responsible authority.

Departure from Brazil

Receita Federal do Brasil

  1. 1

    Declaration of export of goods

Registration of the export of unaccompanied baggage, carried out by our own team in Brazil, with issuance of the bill of lading consigned in the name of the owner of the goods. One Moving hires and coordinates the customs broker and oversees the clearance end to end, for your convenience.

  2. 2

    Inventory valued in FOB dollars

Complete list of goods, volume by volume, with description and value in dollars. In Chile this value is not a formality: the customs duty relief for foreigners is limited to US$5,000 FOB for menaje de casa and US$1,500 FOB for work tools, and it is the inventory that defines whether you fall within the limit. All preparation is carried out by our team during packing and managed by One Moving, for your convenience.

  3. 3

    Identification document and Chilean visa

Valid passport accompanied by a temporary residence visa or one subject to a contract with a duration of one year or more. It is this visa that opens the right to the customs duty relief of Partida 0009.05, and without it the foreigner’s move is not treated as menaje de casa.

Entry into Chile

Servicio Nacional de Aduanas

  1. 1

Entry declaration processed by customs broker

The move is declared to the Servicio Nacional de Aduanas by means of the Declaración de Ingreso. Above US$1,500 FOB, Chilean law requires the intervention of a licensed customs broker, which is practically always the case in a residential move. Decapack, a One Moving Group company in Chile, hires and coordinates that broker and oversees the release end-to-end for your convenience.

  2. 2

Residence visa of 1 year or more

For the foreigner, the right to the exemption under Partida 0009.05 depends on a temporary residence visa or is subject to a contract for a period of 1 year or more. Unlike European countries, Chile does not require a minimum prior period of residence abroad for foreigners: what it requires is the correct visa. We verify this condition before shipment, managed by One Moving, for your convenience.

  3. 3

Cargo consigned in the name of the beneficiary

Household goods must be consigned in the name of the beneficiary of the customs duty relief on the manifest or on the transport document. It is a simple formal requirement to meet when issuing the bill of lading, and one of the most common causes of problems when ignored. We issue the document already in that format.

  4. 4

Proof that the goods are used

The customs duty relief covers used goods acquired before entry into the country. Chilean regulation does not fix a number of months of prior ownership, but requires the used condition. We record this information in the inventory to support the customs analysis, with the whole dossier managed by One Moving, for your convenience.

The window is 120 days before or after, and it is strict

Household goods and personal effects and work utensils must enter together with the traveler or up to 120 days before or after the beneficiary’s entry date into Chile. Since maritime transit on this route consumes 40 to 60 days, your flight date and the cargo shipment date need to be planned together. Missing that window is the second most costly mistake on the route, because the customs duty relief ceases to apply and the cargo will be treated as a regular import.

Vehicles are excluded from the menaje de casa

This is the most expensive mistake on the Brazil–Chile route. Vehicles are not covered by the exemption of Partida 0009. There is a specific allowance, Partida 0033, but it is exclusive to Chileans over 18 years old who resided abroad for 18 months or more continuously, limited to one vehicle. Foreigners have no exemption for vehicles in ordinary transfers of residence. And even the Chilean who qualifies pays all taxes — 6% customs duty plus 19% VAT — being exempt only from the usage surcharge. There is also a three-year restriction on sale.

US$ 5,000 FOB limit for the foreigner

For the foreign national with a residence visa of 1 year or more, the customs duty relief is fixed: up to US$5,000 FOB for menaje de casa and up to US$1,500 FOB for work tools. Amounts exceeding that are taxed. Therefore the inventory valuation needs to be performed with technical judgement, neither inflated nor unrealistic, and discussed with you before shipment.

1 year restriction on selling the goods

Goods that enter under the customs duty relief cannot be subject to negotiation, such as sale or lease, before 1 year has elapsed from the date of importation, unless the applicable taxes are paid. It is a rule easy to violate unintentionally, especially with furniture and appliances that do not fit the new home, and therefore we advise on it at delivery.

For the returning Chilean, the exemption is tiered

Chile applies a progressive system to the returning Chilean citizen, in which the customs duty relief limit grows with time abroad: 6 months to 1 year, up to US$500 FOB; 1 to 5 years, up to US$3,000 FOB; above 5 years, up to US$5,000 FOB. There are updated values applied by customs, and we confirm the range in force at the time of your operation.

SAG phytosanitary control is strict

The Servicio Agrícola y Ganadero maintains strict control over products of animal and plant origin. Food, seeds, plants and untreated wood are controlled or prohibited, and this reaches items that may seem harmless in a move, such as raw wood handicrafts, spices and pet food. We review the inventory with this filter before shipment.

Legal basis: Partidas 0009.04 and 0009.05 of Section 0 of the Arancel Aduanero Nacional and Partida 0033 for vehicles. Information verified in August 2026; we confirm the conditions applicable to your case before shipment.

FAQ Brazil — Chile

The most frequent doubts on the route, answered based on the official rule.

By sea transport, the transit time is 40 to 60 days, and by air, 15 to 30 days. These times are door-to-door: they include collection and packing at your residence in Brazil, cargo consolidation, waiting for the ship’s departure window, the crossing, customs clearance at both ends and final delivery in Chile with furniture assembly. They should not be compared with port-to-port times published by shipping lines, which cover only sailing time.

The goods must enter with you or within a 120-day window before or after the date of your entry into the country. This window is strict. Because sea transit takes 40 to 60 days, we plan the cargo’s shipping date based on your flight date, not the other way around. Outside the window, the household goods customs duty relief ceases to apply.

Yes, and this is the central point for Brazilians. The customs duty relief of Partida 0009.05 requires a temporary residence visa or one subject to a contract for a period of 1 year or more. In compensation, Chile does not require the foreigner to have a minimum prior residence abroad, unlike the European Union, which requires 12 months. Here the requirement is documentary: the correct visa.

Yes. For foreigners, the customs duty relief is up to US$5,000 FOB for household goods and personal effects and up to US$1,500 FOB for work tools. Amounts exceeding these limits are taxed. For Chilean nationals returning, the system is graduated according to time abroad, ranging from US$500 FOB for those who lived abroad 6 months to 1 year up to US$5,000 FOB for those who lived abroad more than 5 years. Therefore the inventory valuation is a technical stage of the operation, not a form.

Not within the moving customs duty relief. Vehicles are expressly excluded from Partida 0009. There is Partida 0033, but it serves only Chileans over 18 years old with 18 months or more of uninterrupted residence abroad, limited to one vehicle, and even then with full payment of 6% customs duties and 19% VAT, plus a three-year sale restriction. For Brazilians moving with a residence visa, vehicle importation is a separate, taxed operation.

For one year, counted from the date of importation. During that period goods entered under customs duty relief may not be the subject of negotiation, including sale and lease, unless you pay the due taxes. We advise on this at delivery, because it is common to want to replace furniture that did not fit the new property.

Chilean law requires the intervention of a licensed customs broker for operations above US$1,500 FOB, which covers practically every residential move. You do not need to find that professional: Decapack, a One Moving Group company in Chile, hires and coordinates the broker and handles the Declaración de Ingreso and the release, all managed for your convenience.

Yes. The entry of dogs and cats requires a Zoosanitary Export Certificate issued by the Brazilian authority, a rabies vaccine administered at least 21 days before shipment for animals older than 3 months, recent internal and external deworming and individual identification by microchip. If the requirements are met, there is no mandatory quarantine. Transport of the animal is a process separate from the shipment of goods and runs in parallel, handled by our pet department. We have already transported more than 1,000 animals.

Control by the Servicio Agrícola y Ganadero (SAG) is strict for products of animal and plant origin: foods, seeds, plants and untreated wood are controlled or prohibited. Weapons and medicines require specific prior authorization. In practice, this reaches items that go unnoticed in a move, such as handicrafts made of raw wood, spices and pet food. We review the inventory with this filter before shipment.

This is one of the few routes in which the Group operates directly at both ends. In Brazil, collection, packing and export documentation are handled by One Moving’s own team. In Chile, reception, customs clearance, delivery and assembly are handled by Decapack, a One Moving Group company founded in 1942 and the most traditional moving company in the country, with a 5,000 square meter logistics center near Santiago airport and presence at the ports of Valparaíso and San Antonio. There are no intermediaries between your home in Brazil and your home in Chile.
