The prior approval that has no alternative with a bond
China is the strictest customs authority in our portfolio on this point: there is no option to ship first and regularize later with a bond. The long-term residence certificate must be approved before the import is requested, and the exemption provided in Decretos GACC nº 116 e nº 58 applies only to the first importation of household goods and personal effects. We check your visa and work permit before any collection, because shipping without this approval means cargo detained at the port.

Without an approved residence visa, customs releases nothing.
This is the particularity that defines the China route and differentiates it from almost all others. The Chinese customs requires that you have already obtained the long-term residence certificate, or establishment approval, before you can request the importation of the move. There is no alternative path with a bond, as in Italy, nor tolerance for an ongoing process. Shipping the cargo before having the residence visa and the work permit in hand is the most expensive mistake on this route: the container is detained, accumulating storage charges at the port, and in some cases the cargo needs to be returned to Brazil.
The exemption applies only to the first importation
This point is often overlooked and has a direct impact on planning. For passengers who are not long-term residents, the duty-free treatment applies only to the first importation of household goods and personal effects. Subsequent shipments become taxable. In practice, this means that splitting the move into two or three stages, common on other routes, here generates tax costs. Planning needs to concentrate everything in a single shipment.
Six months from residence approval to request the import
The import application for moving goods must be submitted to the customs authority competent for your place of residence within six months after approval of the residence or establishment. Because maritime transit on this route takes 50 to 70 days, and because the visa must be obtained beforehand, the schedule requires tight coordination between migration bureaucracy and logistics.
Reasonable quantity for personal use is a real criterion
Chinese regulation does not set months of prior possession, but it conditions the regime on household goods and personal effects being in a reasonable quantity for personal use. In practice, customs assesses whether the volume and repetition of items are compatible with a household and not with resale. 20 identical chairs or 5 televisions attract attention. We review the inventory using this criterion before shipment.
Vehicle: only for permanent personnel and one per family
The importation of automobiles is permitted only for permanent personnel, that is, approved long-term residents, such as representatives of foreign companies, and for Chinese citizens returning to establish residence. The limit is one vehicle per person or family, and the vehicle is subject to full payment of applicable taxes, with no exemption. In most cases the operation is not justified.
Pet: one animal per person and 30 days of quarantine
China allows the entry of only one dog or cat per person at a time. The animal must have a microchip, an official quarantine certificate and a rabies vaccination certificate from the country of origin. Animals coming from non-designated countries, such as Brazil, or without a recognized rabies antibody titration test are subject to a mandatory 30-day quarantine in a facility designated by customs. Our pet department structures the protocol to reduce the animal's discomfort during this period.
Voltage: China uses 220 V, with plugs A, I and C
China operates on 220 V at 50 Hz, and outlets predominantly accept types A, I and C. For those leaving Brazilian regions at 127 V, appliances will not work without a transformer. The difference in frequency, 50 Hz versus Brazil's 60 Hz, also affects motor-driven equipment. We evaluate item by item in the inventory.
