We serve the entire country; contact us to find out the exact transit time for your city.
Estimated door-to-door transit times, subject to the shipping line's or airline's schedule. They include collection, packing, customs clearance at origin and destination, and final delivery. The transit time for your move is confirmed in the quote after the service and route are defined.
The break-even point is around 13 to 15 cubic meters. Below that volume, groupage tends to be more economical. Above it, an exclusive 20-foot container is normally cheaper and also shortens the transit time, because it avoids the consolidation and deconsolidation stages — which usually add up to 4 to 8 days.
A move back to Brazil goes through two distinct customs authorities, each with its own requirements. Learn what is required at each stage.
Direction générale des douanes et droits indirects
Registration of the exit of the goods from the customs territory of the European Union with the French customs, with the maritime or air shipping documentation and the booking of space on the ship or flight. Conducted by accredited agents of our international network, with monitoring by our team.
Inventory with description and approximate value of each item, grouped by box and with the volumes numbered. This document is prepared at origin, but meets a requirement of the Brazilian customs: the boxes must be numbered and the contents listed box by box — it is this document that supports the customs clearance in Brazil. All preparation is done by our team during packing and managed by One Moving, for your convenience.
The bill of lading is issued at origin by the carrier, but Brazilian customs enforces the correct ownership: the document must be in your name, with the number of packages shipped. We always issue it this way, because without it there is loss of eligibility for the baggage regime.
For goods newly purchased in France, it is necessary to present the purchase documentation or justify its inexistence. The lack of this proof can give rise to a special inspection procedure upon arrival in Brazil. We indicate exactly which documents to gather and organize the dossier: One Moving manages this stage for your convenience.
Receita Federal do Brasil
Simplified Import Declaration registered in Siscomex. Siscomex registration can be waived when the declaration is prepared by a customs broker appointed by the traveler — which is how we handle the process. One Moving hires and coordinates the customs broker and monitors the filing until release, for your convenience.
The expanded exemption for furniture and household goods and personal effects requires proof of effective residence abroad for more than one year. In practical enforcement, the proofs that support the clearance are the Declaration of Residence issued by the Brazilian Consulate of the city where you live and utility bills in your name, such as water, electricity, gas and internet. Documents such as titre de séjour, avis d’imposition, rental contract, bulletins de paie and proofs of registration in the Sécurité Sociale compose the dossier as supporting evidence, but do not prove residence by themselves: they attest authorization to reside, not effective residence. We indicate exactly which documents to gather and organize the dossier: One Moving manages this stage for your convenience.
Airline ticket, passport or other document proving the date of arrival in Brazil, which is the reference for the legal window for sending the goods.
Receita Federal assigns a channel to each declaration: green, yellow, red or gray. We follow the customs clearance through to release, delivery to the final address and assembly of the furniture.
The goods must arrive in Brazil between 3 months before and 6 months after your disembarkation. Outside this window, exemptions are lost and a 20% fine on the import duty due applies, pursuant to art. 44, III and §3º of IN RFB nº 1.059/2010. If the delay results from circumstances beyond your control, the special regime is applied without the fine. One point that often causes confusion: this window allows the cargo to arrive before you, but customs clearance is only carried out with the traveler already in Brazilian territory, because the Receita Federal requires proof of your arrival to release the goods. Anticipating the shipment to gain time does not work: the cargo arrives and remains idle, generating storage charges and demurrage. For that reason we align the shipping date to your disembarkation date, with the necessary slack.
The Brazilian resident abroad may make occasional trips to Brazil without losing the exemption, provided that the total time of those visits does not exceed 45 days in the period of one year outside the country. Above that, the excess is not counted toward completing the minimum residence period, and it will be necessary to remain abroad longer to compensate. One important caution: this count admits exceptions, and specific situations — travel for health reasons, family bereavement, employer requirement, among others — may receive different treatment. If your visits to Brazil have approached this limit, do not conclude on your own that you have lost the exemption: a customs specialist evaluates your specific case before any decision about the move.
Those who lived for years in France have normally acquired furniture and appliances there. For these items it is necessary to present purchase documentation or justify its absence, and this is what separates a smooth clearance from a special inspection procedure. We advise the client to organize the invoices before packing, and not after the cargo is already at the port.
Those who resided abroad for more than one year apply for exemption from taxes on furniture and other household goods and personal effects, new or used, and also on tools, machines and instruments necessary for the exercise of the profession, with prior proof of the activity.
Used household goods and personal effects, books, pamphlets and periodicals are exempt. Other goods falling under the concept of baggage enter the Special Taxation Regime, with import duty of 50% on the total value.
Information based on public guidance from the Receita Federal do Brasil (page on unaccompanied baggage and move to Brazil, updated in January 2026), on IN RFB nº 1.059/2010, and on guidance from the Direction générale des douanes et droits indirects of France, consulted in August 2026. Rules may be changed by the competent authorities; we confirm the requirements applicable to your case during the service.

Objective answers about legal deadlines, documentation, exemptions and taxation on the route.
By sea transport, the timeframe is 45 to 65 days, and by air, 15 to 30 days. These timeframes are door-to-door: they include collection and packing at the residence in France, cargo consolidation, waiting for the ship's departure window, the crossing, customs clearance at both ends and the final delivery with furniture assembly in Brazil. They should not be compared with port-to-port times published by carriers, which cover only the sailing time, without customs, collection or delivery.
Yes, and this is not our preference: it is not possible to complete the customs clearance before your arrival in Brazil. The Receita Federal do Brasil (Brazilian Federal Revenue Service) requires, among the documents for the clearance, proof of the traveler's arrival in the country, and the right to customs duty relief is tied to your definitive arrival. The cargo may leave France and arrive before you — the legal window allows up to 3 months in advance — but it will remain waiting at the port or airport until you arrive, with storage and demurrage accruing during that interval. This is why we schedule from your date of arrival, and not from the date the residence is ready to be packed.
Goods must be sent to Brazil within the window of 3 months before your disembarkation up to 6 months after it. Those who send outside this period lose exemptions and the Special Taxation Regime, and are subject to a 20% fine on the import duty due, pursuant to art. 44, III and §3º of Instrução Normativa RFB nº 1.059/2010. There is an exception: if the delay resulted from circumstances beyond the traveler's control, the special regime is applied without the fine.
Persons who resided abroad for more than one year are exempt from taxes on furniture and other household goods and personal effects, new or used, and also on tools, machines, appliances and instruments necessary for the exercise of their profession, art or trade, upon prior proof of the activity. Used personal effects, books, pamphlets and periodicals are exempt regardless of length of residence. Other goods classified under the concept of baggage fall under the Special Taxation Regime, with an import duty of 50% on the total value.
Proof is provided by a set of documents, and the hierarchy among them matters. The two proofs that effectively support the customs clearance are the Declaration of Residence issued by the Brazilian Consulate of the city where you live and utility bills in your name, such as water, electricity, gas and internet: these demonstrate effective residence at the address. Documents such as the titre de séjour or the residence card, the avis d’imposition sur le revenu, the lease contract, the bulletins de paie and the Sécurité Sociale registration proof enter the dossier as support, together with the passport showing entries and exits, but do not prove residence on their own, because they attest to the authorization to reside and not to the fact of having lived there. We assemble this dossier with you before shipment, because gathering documents abroad after you are already in Brazil is much more difficult.
The central document is the electronic Declaração Simplificada de Importação (DSI), registered in Siscomex. Siscomex registration may be waived when the declaration is transmitted by a customs official or prepared by a customs broker appointed by the traveler. In addition to it, the list of goods with description and approximate value per volume, the bill of lading, proof of the traveler's arrival in Brazil, a copy of the identification document and, in the case of foreigners, the permanent visa document are required.
This is the most common point of attention on this route, because those who lived for years in France normally furnished their home there. Newly purchased goods require the presentation of purchase documentation or formal justification of its inexistence, and the lack of this proof can give rise to a special inspection procedure upon arrival. Good practice is to gather the invoices before packing and link them to the inventory, volume by volume. If any invoice no longer exists, the correct approach is to formally justify it, not simply omit the item.
Receita Federal itself advises the traveler to require the contracted company to have the bill of lading issued and delivered in their name, stating the number of volumes shipped. Without this document in the name of the owner of the goods, the condition that the baggage be covered by a bill of lading is not met, which leads to the regime being disqualified and the loss of the exemption.
The Receita Federal do Brasil (Brazilian Federal Revenue Service) assigns each import declaration a customs inspection channel. In the green channel, release is automatic. In the yellow channel, there is a documentary review. In the red channel, in addition to documentary review, a physical inspection of the cargo takes place. In the gray channel, a full valuation audit is carried out. The red and gray channels can add days or weeks to the timeframe, regardless of the transport mode chosen, and consistent documentation is the biggest lever to mitigate this risk.
The exemption depends on the simultaneous fulfillment of four conditions: the goods must arrive within the window of 3 months before to 6 months after disembarkation; they must be covered by a bill of lading; they must originate from the countries of stay or origin of the traveler; and they must fit the concept of baggage in art. 2º, II, of IN RFB nº 1.059/2010. Non‑compliance with any of these leads to the regime being disapplied.
